How do I join The Sons of Confederate Veterans?
Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either lineal (grandfather, great grandfather, etc.) or collateral family lines (uncle, great uncle, etc.) and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically. The minimum age for full membership is 12, but there is no minimum for Cadet membership.
If you know who your Confederate ancestor is:
1. Download, print, and fill out a SCV application. SCV Application
2. Download New Recruit Letter and read carefully the instructions: New Recruit Letter
3. Download, print and fill out a lineage chart showing your kinship to the veteran. SCV Lineage Chart
3. Obtain service records of your Confederate ancestor from Fold3 or the State Archives from the state from which he enlisted.
4. Mail application, lineage chart , service record and fee to: Commander Calvin Hart, 4884 Victoria Chase Ct., Jacksonville, FL 32257
If you don’t know who your Confederate ancestor is or if you need help filling out the application and lineage chart or obtaining service records for your Confederate ancestor:
Contact our camp genealogist, David Lloyd by email at dglloyd@comcast.net or by phone at (904)294-7358. Please provide as much information that you can such as your parents’ and grandparents’ names (maiden name), birth/death dates and places.
